Along Australia’s shores, the sea rises and falls to different rhythms. About Tijd traces three of those patterns from Perth, Sydney and Adelaide.
Perth’s diurnal tides bring one high tide each day. Sydney’s semidiurnal tides bring two high tides of similar height, while Adelaide’s mixed tides bring two that contrast more strongly in height.
Together, their overlapping curves reveal the contrasting patterns of the sea’s daily rise and fall.
